The mission of the River Forest Rail Traffic Pollution Protection Group is to safeguard our community and our neighbors from the dangers associated with living and working near active rail lines. Our key areas of focus are safety and sound. We work with local communities, local, state and national government and railroad stakeholders to ensure that projects are undertaken in a safe manner that adheres to all federal and local safety and environmental protection regulations.
My neighbors and I are committed to improving rail safety through our organization, River Forest Rail Traffic Pollution Protection Group, Ltd. Please join us as we seek to make the UP-West line a safer environment for those who live along and utilize the rails by signing this petition.
We are asking Union Pacific to abide by Union Pacific and Metra safety standards and by the Federal Transportation Administration's guidelines for noise mitigation for federally funded projects. To do this we want Union Pacific to install 8’ tall solid acoustic fence or noise barrier stretching from the Vale Interlocking to the Des Plaines River Bridge, bringing the site into compliance with current high speed rail environmental protections, and to do it now before greater harm occurs. Additionally, we want the access road removed.
