River Forest Rail Traffic Pollution Protection Group is concerned with the issues of sound and safety that are part and parcel of living next to a busy rail line.
According to the original project documentation for the UP-West Metra Third Rail Expansion Project, "standard UP and Metra safety and security measures will be incorporated as part of the [Third Mainline] Project, including fencing along the corridor". There is currently NO fencing along the project site currently.
In River Forest, our neighbors frequently observe people on the tracks. Suspects have fled from the River Forest police onto the tracks. "Police apprehended a 39-year old Skokie man at about 1:50 a.m. on March 26 on the River Forest Metra platform, after he jumped the curb on Hawthorne Ave. and drove through the garages at 355 and 351 Thatcher Ave."
The River Forest Rail Traffic Pollution Protection Group, LTD requests that UP's and Metra's own safety and security measures be applied to the Third Mainline Project now and that permanent, secure barriers be erected upon completion of the project.
